  • Free Home Energy Squad Visits for Minneapolis Residents

    For a limited time, the City of Minneapolis Sustainability Division is offering FREE Home Energy Squad visits for residents living in 1-4 unit homes, including renters.

    The Home Energy Squad program is provided by CenterPoint Energy and Xcel Energy. During your Home Energy Squad visit, a team of energy experts will evaluate energy saving opportunities in your home and install materials to help you start saving on the spot. These upgrades can include door weather stripping, high-efficiency water fixtures, LED bulbs and a programmable or smart thermostat. The visit may also include:

    If the Home Energy Squad recommends insulation or air sealing, you will receive a personalized quote and an opportunity to schedule the work with a qualified contractor. Minneapolis residents also have special access to 0% APR financing to complete insulation and air sealing work, or to upgrade to heat pump electric water heaters, air source heat pumps, or solar.

    This summer, a research team from the University of Minnesota, in cooperation with Minneapolis and Saint Paul, is implementing pedestrian safety measures across the Twin Cities at selected crosswalks. As part of this safety project, they are asking all residents of Saint Paul and Minneapolis to read and pledge a few common-sense safety behaviors for pedestrians, drivers, and bicyclists.

    Minneapolis is more than willing to fix sidewalks and curb cuts; they just need to know where the deficiencies are located. A cohesive effort can be the force behind repairing our beloved pathways.

    Here is what you can do:

    ‣ Join our Facebook group!

    ‣ When out in the community, keep an eye out for insufficient sidewalks and curb cuts.

    ‣ Jot down the address and a brief description of the problem area. Take a picture also to provide a visualization.

    ‣ Create a post within the group with all the details of the sidewalk or curb cut that is in question.

The AACLT is an initiative focused on significantly decreasing the historic racial disparities in the homeownership rate while increasing access to perpetually affordable homeownership in Minneapolis.

  • Minnesota Family Resiliency Program for Caregivers in Need of Financial Support

    The Minnesota Family Resiliency Partnership (formerly Displaced Homemaker Program) is a great program for anyone who has been a primary caregiver (children or other family members) and has lost their financial support due to divorce, separation, loss of public financial assistance, etc. Through this FREE program, we can provide support around personalized assessments, individual counseling, education and training, job search and placement, networking as well as other short term assistance. We have the capacity to enroll and serve individuals remotely and help them prepare for and begin a job search while helping with other supports and referrals along the way.

    Prepare + Prosper is a St. Paul-based nonprofit that works with low- and moderate-income people to build financial wellness and financial inclusion. They offer free tax preparation, free financial coaching, and (in partnership w/ Sunrise Banks) have a banking program called FAIR (Financial Access In Reach).

  • Little Free Pantry on 1901 Stevens Avenue

    The Stevens Square-Loring Heights community is a food desert with an ever-increasing demand for food and household items. SSCO built, installed and will maintain this pantry which sits just outside Stevens Square Park for all residents to access food when it is needed.

    If you have the ability to give - to place a few items or to fill the panty - please sign up! The unit is along the condo building at 1901 Stevens Ave. You can sign up for a one-time drop, for multiple days, or you could decide to bring food on a monthly basis!

    Anyone is still welcome to donate food to the pantry by placing it in the pantry at any time. This sign-up is intended to help ensure there is some food in the pantry every day.
