Social Media and Communications Intern

Start Date: October 2020 – May 2021

The timing is flexible. The internship could be for one semester or for the year. There is also the opportunity to move into a paid part-time position for the summer of 2021.

Position type: Internship, unpaid (about 8-10 hours a week)

Location: Remote work with some on-site meetings when appropriate

Reports to: Executive Director

About Stevens Square Community Organization

Founded in 1975, SSCO is a civic and social engagement organization located just south of downtown Minneapolis. We create community events like the Red Hot Art Festival, operate a weekly Farmers Market and community gardens, develop public safety programming and focus on neighborhood development projects.

Qualifications:

· Skilled use and understanding of social media platforms

· Strong writing and editing skills

· A motivated self-starter

· Comfortable working independently and taking initiative

· Able to work with staff on projects as needed

· Ability to work remotely and have access to a secure computer/network to share content

· Background in communications, journalism, marketing, non-profit administration, or similar

· Interest in making the world a better place – one neighborhood at a time

Duties and Responsibilities:

· Publish content, primarily on social media, with the purpose of educating and engaging the community in our work to make a real difference in the lives of those in our communities

· Track and report social media analytics from start to finish of internship

· Updating and developing marketing materials

· Content writing and creation:

1. Plan, create, and schedule weekly social media posts and newsletter creation through storytelling and promoting events, issues, and resources that relate to our mission

2. Capture photos or include visual aids that help the community engage with our work

3. Research issues of public safety, violence prevention, public art, food scarcity and/or racial inequity to inform your work
