Red Hot Workshops

Back by popular demand, Red Hot Workshops returned in 2021! 6 workshops led by teaching artists were held in SS-LH’s 2 community gardens - the Overlook Garden and the LaSalle Community Garden. Check them out!

 Brigids Cross: Symbol of Protection

Facilitated by Martha Bird, at this workshop, participants learned how to turn the willow that Martha harvested, dried, and prepared into a protective symbol for their home!

 Pattern of Solidarity

In this writing and movement based workshop, facilitated by Arneshia Williams, participants worked collectively to build a pattern of movement representing solidarity.

Hot Metal Hearts: Together & Apart

Best friends and artists, Cassi Rebman and Sarah Dorau brought their two portable furnaces to the Overlook Garden for an aluminum casting workshop! Participants came solo, as well as in pairs, and created interlocking "best-friend" hearts they could take home and cherish forever.

 Caldtoart Paint Time

Kenneth Caldwell of CaldtoArt Paint Time led participants through a painting tutorial in the shade of the beautiful LaSalle Community Garden.

 Feeding Connection w/ Postcard Art

Esther Seha, political scientist, baker, artist, and teacher, shared the art and joy of the postcard! Participants created mini canvases that shared joy, surprise, kindness, and care with their neighbors and loved ones in Stevens Square-Loring Heights.

 Handsewn Plushies: Fabric Friends

Samantha Leopold-Sullivan taught workshop goers how to create plush stuffed animals - from a pattern, or free-hand! At the end, participants took home their own fabric friends.
